Mechatronics District

The District of MECCATRONICA is promoted by Confindustria Palermo and was set up in Sicily by the Decree of  December 1st 2005 "Criteria for the identification and recognition procedures of the Industrial Districts". The underwriters of the District are public entities (municipalities, Association of Engineers ,etc...) and private companies. What is Mechatronics: Technological discipline related to the involvement of the information (Automatic electronics, computer science and telecommunications) in the sector  of mechanics, which deals with the study, the  optimization and the control of production systems and processes.  Mission: The District mission is the promotion of productive chains built on lines of relation and intellectual specialization, innovation and industrialization. The chains are based on strong relationships with Universities, research centers, providers of true and evolved service who aim at increasing the size of firms, at their  sectorial and productive redevelopment, linked to relevant intangible investment in shared and value added services and in research and development. The District of Mechatronics  promotes process and product innovation projects , that are able to secure an international market. The objective is therefore to create stable  product market relationships with other countries such as the UnitedArab Emirates, India, Morocco, Tunisia, etc.. Area dimension:         Companies       100         Employees      2.080   Experiences in progress: The Productive District of Mechatronics is the promoter of different levels of development of the supply chain, for the research and industrialization of new technologies as well as for internationalization. The EDIMEC plan, the Sicily Mechatronics plan, the SIKO plan, are some of the most important projects financed with more than 50 million Euro investment funds with the support of the European Community. The District of Mechatronics is partner of the City of Cefalù and Madonie city network, and is working with them, through technical meetings, to the definition of Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) and the definition of sustainable tourism policies. The Productive District of Mechatronics has joined Unionfiliere, the Association of Chambers of Commerce for the enhancement of supply chains made in Italy, and was one of the founders of the Mechanics Chain of Unionfiliere. Most represented sectors:         metal product manufacturing - 25 companies          machinery & equipment manufacturing - 18 companies         software manufacturing - 10 companies Supply chain management: Mission: The District mission is the promotion of productive chains built on lines of relation and intellectual specialization,innovation and industrialization, realized on interprovincial and regional scale.
